Easily recognizable with its red windmill, the Moulin Rouge is one of the most prestigious cabarets in the world. Located on the corner of Boulevard de Clichy and Place Blanche, the Moulin Rouge was ideally situated in the center of nightlife entertainment in Paris and became quickly one of the nerve centers of Montmartre.
Founded by Joseph Oller and Charles Zidler in 1889, the Moulin Rouge went through several transformations, from cabaret shows to theatre, and from cinema to music-hall with dancers popping out of cakes.
The early years of the Moulin Rouge have been marked by extravagant shows mainly inspired by the circus, and other notorious attractions which are still famous such as Pétomane.
For more than 120 years, the most legendary cabaret in the world has welcomed millions of spectators, more than 600,000 in 2018.
The Moulin Rouge is also famous as the birthplace of the "can-can" dance. Born during the great period in French history – the Belle Époque, the can-can dance was introduced as an seductive dance by the courtesans from the site and evolved into a sort of show of its own and led to the rise of cabarets all across Europe.
The Moulin Rouge is now a major tourist attraction, offering musical dance entertainment for travelers from around the world. Its decor still contains much of the romance of the "Belle Époque" in France.
The shows (also called “revues”) don’t show any sign of stopping. Today the "Féérie" show retraces the history of the Moulin Rouge night after night.
Step into its beautiful room where so many amazing artists have performed and enjoy a night full of magic.
