The Cathedral of Florence, mostly known as the Duomo or formally Santa Maria del Fiore, is the biggest and the most famous cathedral in Florence. This construction which is the symbol of the city was built upon the Santa Reparata Church. Among the most emblematic sites in Italy, the cathedral, with its terracotta dome designed by Brunelleschi and its bell tower by Giotto, stands in the middle of the city as unique landmark of Florence. When going down towards the basement of the church, remains of the original church can still be seen. Moreover, the grave of Brunelleschi is in the basement section.
