Berlin Wall

The Berlin Wall, Berliner Mauer in German, is the wall that was built to divide the eastern side of the capital to its western side. It was used also to prevent the citizens of Eastern Germany from fleeing to Western Germany. Also known as Wall of Shame, the Berlin Wall was demolished on 9th November 1989. Nowadays remains of Berlin Wall have become an open air street art gallery, named East Side Gallery. The graffitti painted on the the Berlin Wall have become famous worldwide, symbolizing the peace and the end of the division of Germany. The Berlin Wall is an important landmark to visit in Berlin to understand the last decades of its history.
